Bulmers Cider was founded in 1887 in Herefordshire, England by Fred and Percy Bulmer. It began producing cider in Ireland in 1937 when it purchased a 50% stake in William Magners operation, started two years before. They purchased the other 50% in 1946, renaming the operation Bulmers Ltd Clonmel. That operation was sold to C&C Group in 1960, who still has rights to sell Bulmers within the Republic of Ireland. Outside of the country, they now market the same product as Magners Irish Cider.
In 2003, Bulmers was purchased by Scottish & Newcastle for £278 million. Five years later, Heineken and Carlsberg jointly purchased Scottish & Newcastle and split up its brands between themselves; Bulmers was granted to Heineken.
